Mission: Gulf Coast

Mission what, mission who, mission trip what in the world is that?

So let me tell you a little story about a trip to Mississippi
it started out with 6 yutes, and 3 adults

We left chicago at approximately 9:43 am on Saturday morning July 29, 2006

We were headed to Hernando, Mississippi in a white 15 passenger rental van with 9 passengers. Out of the 6 youth on the trip only one was female (I know poor her-all the attention of the boys how could she handle it!!!!!)

I having slept very little the night before because of all the things I needed to accomplish at school before I left for the week was asleep before we made it to HWY 57. And if you know anything about hwy 57 in Illinois it is very long and very boring so sleeping is the best possible thing to do!

By 6:17 Saturday evening we arrived in Hernando. They were just finishing a Wedding ceremony and then these wonderful people were willing to feed us. We also met a few other groups that were also staying there on their way down to the gulf as well. One of the groups had some youth aged kids in it and after dinner all of the youths played ultimate frisbee to burn off all of their bottled up energy!

We were heading out early the next morning so off to bed for all the little ones...

NOW imagine you walk into the cooler at your place of employement or for those of you who have never had a large cooler just think of standing outside in shorts in the middle of winter. Ok that was how warm or should I say freezing my nights sleep was that night. I woke up every time the airconditioner kicked in... I dug out my sweatshirt and put it on my head to try and stay warm. I even got out my towel and wrapped up in it-just to try and stay warm enough to sleep muntil 6am-wakie, wakie time

well i survived and did even end of getting a bit of sleep in the process!

THe next day was long and boring.
Walter loves to talk and the first day I am pretty sure he talked non stop! The second day he also spoke pretty much without ever taking a breath. The youth were wnxious to arrive and see the "sites" and set up up our things and get ready for working on Monday.

I am blessed to have Youth that love to work- they were actually hoping to get a roof becuase that is their favorite job! (sick I know I am pretty sure eacho f their mother's dropped them on their heads when they were younger!!!!)

Well they ended up getting to roof and I well ended up being in charge at the distribution center (a theme that follows me lately-I believe it may be a curse!)
check out future bloggs to get the rest of the trip
